A picturesque seaside community in a village type setting on the east coast of Vancouver Island, Lantzville began as a coal mining settlement in the 1800s. It is divided into two areas: Upper Lantzville and Lower Lantzville. Lantzville is named after Harry Lantz, an American who invested in a coal mine in nearby Nanoose.
